Dr. Terrell Winder is Assistant Professor of Sociology at UC Santa Barbara, and previously served as Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Maxwell School for Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. A scholar of race, sexuality, gender, Dr. Winder's research investigates how marginalized groups overcome stigma and how social identities (e.g. race, gender, sexuality, class, etc.) are formed. He has served as a faculty member for the National Association of Independent School's Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) since 2007. Additionally, Winder has provided consulting to non-profit organizations in the monitoring and evaluation of sexual health education programs and initiatives. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Winder is an independent school alum from McDonogh School in Owings Mills, MD. He received his B.A. in Comparative Ethnic Studies from Columbia University in the City of New York where he also received his teaching certification in Elementary Education. Dr. Winder completed his doctoral training in sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles.
